Summary

An unexpected quest。 Two worlds at stake。 Are you ready?

Days after Oasis founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything。 Hidden within Halliday's vault, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the Oasis a thousand times more wondrous, and addictive, than even Wade dreamed possible。 With it comes a new riddle and a new quest。 A last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize。 And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who will kill millions to get what he wants。 Wade's life and the future of the Oasis are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance。

This is a good book。 I thought it was going to be boring because Wade could just One-shot everything but then he got the robes stolen by Anorak。 Then there was also the conflict with trapping everyone on the ONI rigs I also like how all of the challenges were also very specific for Kira and not more Holliday challenges。 It also ends in a very definitive end, but there is also room to make another book。

Really excellent book, loved this next level!

Nothing about this book made sense to me。 I loved the first one, but the sequel felt like a mad lib。 You know, where you take a formula for a story and blindly plug in words to make nonsense? The quest in this book felt contrived from the beginning, and the ending completely defied logic and shattered my suspension of disbelief。 I will, until the day I die, suggest that people read the first book and leave it be。

Not as good as the first one。

I mean, why does this book not get any hype?? It’s so amazingly well written with engaging characters and an (almost) plausible yet so very imaginative plot- I mean, we’re talking about immortality here and I can almost believe it。 I just loved it。 It’s my favorite fiction read of the year- by far!! The first book was made into a really great movie, yet no one’s talking about this one and it was available at the library with no hold。 I stumbled across it by accident。 I just don’t get it。 Read th I mean, why does this book not get any hype?? If you like fiction and especially science-fiction, you will absolutely love this。 I hope this writer just keeps going and going。 Probably needs to explore a new plot now, but my fingers and toes are crossed that he’s already working on it!! I just got halfway through an overhyped book (four winds, Kristin Hannah, total melodramatic crap) by an overhyped writer and I could just puke。 So many books are inferior to this, and I don’t know why this is just lost below the surface。 Not that anybody reads my reviews, but I absolutely loved this book!!!! 。。。more

Similar action sequences to the first one and some plausible and original concepts for how we reach immortality and what the implications might be。 Although I think he's wrong about how happy the ending would be。 Similar action sequences to the first one and some plausible and original concepts for how we reach immortality and what the implications might be。 Although I think he's wrong about how happy the ending would be。 。。。more

I give it 3。5 stars。 His writing now is better than the first book。 Plot restrictions made the pacing feel rushed。 Enjoyed how he describes the 3 explored worlds, even though I'm not an expert in John Hughes, Prince, or Middle Earth。 Felt like an American Treasure movie to me。 I give it 3。5 stars。 His writing now is better than the first book。 Plot restrictions made the pacing feel rushed。 Enjoyed how he describes the 3 explored worlds, even though I'm not an expert in John Hughes, Prince, or Middle Earth。 Felt like an American Treasure movie to me。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Den Anfang fand ich sehr stark。 Der Übergang zum Hauptabenteuer selbst war gut, danach gab es für mich allerdings starke Schwächen/Hänger (wie schon in Ready Player One)。 Speziell meine ich damit das ca。 70-seitige Geschehen um Prince, das ich furchtbar zäh und ätzend fand。 Das Ende war ganz okay。 Insgesamt fand ich den Roman in großen Teilen unterhaltsam。

This is horrible。 The first book was a fun read。 This one was painful to read。 The characters are unlikeable and the plot just isn't as engaging。 This is horrible。 The first book was a fun read。 This one was painful to read。 The characters are unlikeable and the plot just isn't as engaging。 。。。more

Lol this was aggressively bad。 Wade is a creepy asshole who never really gets his comeuppance。 Halliday is an even bigger asshole! The Prince segment was way too long and the overarching plot was pretty bad。 All in all, the book’s only saving grace is Wil Wheaton’s narration and the fact that it was mindlessly entertaining。

Allyssa

I enjoyed Ready Player One better but worth reading for the John Hughes section!

Not quite as good as #1。 Wade has to display his encyclopedic knowledge of 1980s pop culture in order to save everybody from a catastrophic fate。 In this book where most people are impoverished and malnourished, I find the saddest thing is that they don't listen to music, watch TV or movies, or consume other culture that is from their own generation。 Not quite as good as #1。 Wade has to display his encyclopedic knowledge of 1980s pop culture in order to save everybody from a catastrophic fate。 In this book where most people are impoverished and malnourished, I find the saddest thing is that they don't listen to music, watch TV or movies, or consume other culture that is from their own generation。 。。。more

This sequel felt really forced at times due to book one already telling a finished story but as a story it was entertaining while it dragged at points because some parts from Ready Player One were just repeated in a different way。I'd still recommend the book for people who enjoyed the first one want to read more about Parcival, Artemis and friends。 We get nerdy references, fun dialogue and somewhat epic fights again。 I enjoyed it。 This sequel felt really forced at times due to book one already telling a finished story but as a story it was entertaining while it dragged at points because some parts from Ready Player One were just repeated in a different way。I'd still recommend the book for people who enjoyed the first one want to read more about Parcival, Artemis and friends。 We get nerdy references, fun dialogue and somewhat epic fights again。 I enjoyed it。 。。。more

I didn't read this book, yet I still feel entitled to give it a one star rating and write this review。Data mining the other reviews, this is the worst kind of sellout schlock imaginable。Ernest Cline is in sequel hell。 Armada was not very popular, nor quite as good as RP1。 So of course when the publisher guarantees publication of a sequel and hollywood more or less guarantees the same for the movie, what is a sellout hack to do? Regurgitate the same plot, the same characters, and add woke-friendly pandering per publisher request。Publishers and authors these days, by and large, don't have a clue about what makes good literature。。。 which is authenticity。 RP1 reads like an authentic love story for the 1980's。 RP2 has so little authenticity that I'm not even going to waste my time。 Let's just hope Spielberg can work his magic and throw out 90% of the plot in making the sequel。 。。。more

Nah, that seems unlikely。Two whole stars because some of the framing - the discovery that your hero has a dark side, the gradual realization that maybe the quest handed out by a shady AF dude requires some closer examination, and umm。 I kinda thought the Prince world would be cool to see in a movie。 Which, licensing permitting, will no doubt become reality at some point。 The total lack of character development and glittery new tech with big guns - yeah, perfect for a popcorn action movie。 Pretty meh even for a popcorn book。 。。。more

Ready Player Two is one hell of a wild ride, and I have a lot of … FEELINGS … about it。 It is a worthy sequel to Ready Player One and shares the same playful fun of existing inside a massive video game, deeply entrenched in 1980s pop culture。 But … it is also much, much darker than the original。 Newly discovered technology opens up possibilities unimaginable and yet deeply imaginable。 Of course, every technology, once unleashed, doesn’t always quite work the way the creator intended。 Though some Ready Player Two is one hell of a wild ride, and I have a lot of … FEELINGS … about it。 It is a worthy sequel to Ready Player One and shares the same playful fun of existing inside a massive video game, deeply entrenched in 1980s pop culture。 But … it is also much, much darker than the original。 Newly discovered technology opens up possibilities unimaginable and yet deeply imaginable。 Of course, every technology, once unleashed, doesn’t always quite work the way the creator intended。 Though sometimes it does — with very human consequences。 This is that tale, and while still fun, it is deeply unsettling。 For me, it was made even more unsettling because I was in the midst of this world when Mark Zuckerberg announced his plans for the Metaverse, which feels a heck of a lot like the OASIS — and frankly, like the brilliant but slightly deranged fictional James Halliday。 Terrifying — and makes the unimaginable, imaginable。So … yes, the book can be read as a fun quest story rooted in nostalgia ideally suited to those of us who lived through the 80s, but there is also a much deeper morality tale here that will challenge you to think about what could be。 The conclusion the book draws was somewhat unexpected, and I have deeply mixed emotions about it。 If you do decide to read it, I’d love to talk about it! But for now, I’m going to go log off and enjoy my real life。 。。。more

This is a direct sequel to Ready Player One, picking up not soon after the events of that previous novel。It also follows the same characters, told in the same first person point of view as previous - I must admit, I initially found that a bit jarring, as I would have expected (with a title such as it is) that it would follow a different character - after all, how often IRL is Player Two the same person as Player One in a computer game?Anyway, Wade Watts。Still an obsessed geek; still fan-worshipp This is a direct sequel to Ready Player One, picking up not soon after the events of that previous novel。It also follows the same characters, told in the same first person point of view as previous - I must admit, I initially found that a bit jarring, as I would have expected (with a title such as it is) that it would follow a different character - after all, how often IRL is Player Two the same person as Player One in a computer game?Anyway, Wade Watts。Still an obsessed geek; still fan-worshipping the creator of the Oasis James Halliday (at least initially)。 However, with the release of new technology by the company he now owns that not only allows its user to control an avatar, but to *feel* like they actually are that person - sight, taste, hearing, sensations and all - and with further experiences (I don't want to give too much away), Watts finds his hero-worshipping lessening somewhat。If I'm honest, I did also find parts of this novel to drag somewhat, especially in the lengthy section where Cline goes into great detail around the Oasis world dedicated to 'The Artist Formerly Known as Prince' (which just made me uncomfortable)。 I also had to shake my head at just how some of the characters behaved 。。。(yes, I know they're not real。 Still need to to be believable, though!) 。。。more

Borrowed from library。 I was struggling to get some traction with this book & almost returned it when it picked up。 Flagged again with WAY too much role-playing/gaming detail about the different quests and worlds they were played in。 I hung on to the end, but barely。 Quite a drop in rating from the first book。 Maybe because the characters were now adults but not acting like it。 Also the endless detail overwhelmed the story。

After the first one this is a huge disappointment。 The Oasis was mind blowing enough but then it just got far too complicated with ONI。 Scary if this is where our kids futures end up!

Basically the same as the first book with a new quest。 I didn’t enjoy the main character nearly as much as in book 1。 He’s become the familiar whiny guy whose only redeeming quality are his friends and the women and nbies who support and love him。 Is it a literary masterpiece?
